What We STand For

Konopé Compliance stands for integrity and education above all. We know the cannabis regulatory landscape can be difficult to navigate. Our goal is to serve you with transparent expertise, and set you up for success.

Who We Work With

Cannabis compliance regulations are important for protecting health and safety. But they can also be challenging for businesses to navigate—particularly for businesses without the resources of the big MSOs. We’ve worked with a wide range of operators who can speak to the difference expert cannabis consulting makes. Konopé Compliance can help clients of any stage and scale, but we offer particular value to:

  • Small and medium-sized cannabis businesses

  • Businesses in emerging or evolving regulatory markets

  • Social equity license applicants

  • Operations experiencing regulatory investigation

  • Cannabis businesses expanding into new markets

  • Operations that are modifying or changing location

  • Cultivation and manufacturing operations

  • Retail and delivery operations

About Konopé Compliance

After a decade working in almost every corner of the cannabis industry, we founded Konopé in 2016 so we could spend another decade—and beyond—helping this industry achieve its fullest potential. We’ve seen from the inside out the challenges cannabis companies face, and what can happen when a business is non-compliant.

We have also worked closely with state and local governments to help shape sensible compliance legislation based on our deep familiarity with the industry. In 2022, for example, we helped draft and pass Colorado HB22-1222.

Our bottom line? To protect yours. Konopé helps cannabis businesses safeguard and increase their value by meeting or exceeding cannabis compliance standards.

Is Your Cannabis Business Ready for Anything?

As the cannabis industry grows, so does the degree of compliance risk businesses take on. State markets are expanding and stabilizing, and their regulatory bodies are increasingly sophisticated and capable of enforcing their rules. And while federal legalization hasn’t yet come to pass, companies that fail to begin preparing themselves for potential future liabilities expose themselves to significant unnecessary risk.

The fallout from ignoring compliance risk or falling short of regulatory mandates can be dire for businesses. Employee turnover, operational inefficiencies and lost revenue are just the tip of the iceberg. If you let compliance slide long enough, whether intentionally or not, you may be looking at lost licenses and lawsuits.

Engaging a cannabis compliance consultant or hiring a Fractional Compliance Officer - Like Konopé, can be a cost- and time-effective alternative to hiring an in-house full-time Compliance Officer or legal counsel. Konopé was founded expressly to ensure cannabis businesses are ready for anything—whether it’s exponential growth or a visit from regulators.

Meet The Team

Founder Colin Mudd has spent the past 14 years deeply immersed in Colorado’s evolving cannabis compliance landscape. His vision for Konopé is to help build a safer, more equitable cannabis industry by providing compliance resources and expertise to the businesses that need it most.

Colin knows what it’s like working in cannabis. He also knows what it’s like to shape cannabis policy. He has worked hard to advise lawmakers on how best to draft legislation that protects public health and safety while allowing licensed businesses the opportunity to grow.

Colin fights for small and medium-sized cannabis businesses as a compliance consultant. And he uses his platform to lobby for common-sense cannabis regulations in markets across the US, testifying as a subject matter expert on many occasions.

COLIN MUDD
Founder + Principal Consultant

  • For eight years, I developed and led the compliance department for incredibles. During that time it was one of Colorado's largest manufacturers of infused products with three cultivations and two extraction labs in Denver and Clear Creek County. While at incredibles, I directed licensing, operational compliance, training and development, and compliance strategy for the company and the brand’s licensing partners in 8 different markets in the US, pre and post-acquisition.

I specialize in assessing and mitigating risks associated with all cannabis license types. I pride myself on preparing clients for state and local inspections and investigations with comprehensive facility audits and compliance SOPs that are state specific, and updated annually. I offer my services as a Fractional Compliance Officer to small and medium-sized businesses up to MSOs with established compliance departments helping them identify key performance indicators for their operational teams. I have practical and theoretical expertise with state and local regulatory agencies in Colorado in particular but have clients throughout the US where my experience is valuable to new operators looking to position themselves for sustainable success.

In the first five years of my cannabis career, I was fortunate to work for some of today’s most prominent brands. My focus was on retail ops, establishing some of the country's first standard operating procedures for dispensary operations. Admittedly, it was out of necessity and not any particular expertise. At the time, said SOPs never existed for cannabis retail ops in the first place. Since, I have worked in every industry sector including manufacturing and cultivation, medical and recreational markets. New and established businesses alike.

Over the past 14 years, one thing is for certain; I have developed a strong passion for the cannabis industry/community. I have a passion for this plant and for helping people achieve their goals and dreams within this industry. I treat each client’s business as if it were my own, and ask myself, ‘What would I do to help me have peace of mind if this were my license?’ Not every client is the same, and not every market is the same, therefore solutions to their problems are uniquely tailored to help them sustainably succeed.

I want to continue to help further this 'movement,' which is now bigger than I ever thought possible, yet so far from being equitable and just. I want to be a part of creating a new chapter in American History where we don’t use cannabis or other controlled substances as a way to control specific groups of people. We still have a long way to go.

Over the years, I have lobbied for common-sense cannabis reform across the country at the state and local levels. It has been my privilege to testify in support of ending the war on drugs wherever and whenever possible. Again, we still have a long way to go.

I founded Konopé Consulting to be in a better position to significantly impact the industry for decades to come. I support the Last Prisoner Project and became a partner at the Parabola Center in 2023, something I am very proud of. I have several Social Equity applicants and Social Equity License Holders as clients. Over the past four years, I have made my services available at a discounted rate or worked pro-bono to leverage my expertise to help others who have not had the same resources I did, have a chance at accomplishing their goals in this space.
